THE PARTNERSHIP FOR PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY

OFFICIAL LAUNCH EVENT

The Partnership will officially launch on Jan. 30th at 8:30am, and we would love to see you there! CLICK HERE for details and registration information.

The Partnership for Prince George’s County grows out of a series of five programs that were co-sponsored by the Washington Grantmakers Sustainable Communities Working Group and the Prince George’s Community Foundation in 2006 and early 2007. The purpose of the programs was to educate funders about Prince George’s County and its nonprofits – their strengths, as well as the challenges they face – and to use what we learned to help increase private philanthropic investment in the county. The members wanted to know about its nonprofit sector and leaders, its government, the role of churches, and the challenges that growth and development presented to the County. The programs took place at the Prince George’s Community Foundation in Landover, Maryland and always drew standing-room-only crowds, indicating broad interest in the County. A planning committee of funders and invited stakeholders subsequently held three meetings to agree upon next steps. The Partnership for Prince George’s County was born out of these activities.

Washington Grantmakers and the Prince George’s Community Foundation put out the call: Who wants to maximize the effectiveness of philanthropy in Prince George’s County, Maryland? Five standing-room-only sessions. Funders, nonprofits, government leaders, community activists. Together at last, they spoke about opportunities and lessons learned. Unrealized potential. They agreed that something had to change.PartnershipLaunching in early 2008, The Partnership for Prince George’s County will connect the people who live, work, learn, and play in Prince George’s County to each other and to the region. The network will build strategic alliances among County stakeholders, and the region’s grantmakers will pool their funds to strengthen the County’s nonprofit community.Read: Partnering for Progress: Building a “Different Kind of Collaborative” in Prince George’s County
