EQUITY | Research from the Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis shows that the gap between the region’s rich and poor is among the largest in the country. The Brookings Institution’s Martha Ross sees danger in the numbers and says, “The social fabric gets less [integrated] if there’s a bunch of high-income people and a bunch of low-income people and they don’t see their interests as aligned.” (Examiner, 3/21)

PARTNERSHIPS | Recent research shows that most human service organizations in D.C. face challenges from working with the government to provide programs and services to city residents. An Urban Institute forum discussed the topic, identified challenges, and proposed solutions. (Urban Institute)
TECH | Google for Nonprofits launched last week and offers nonprofit organizations free tools - including up to $10,000 in free advertising on AdWords – to help raise awareness and funding. (Google, 3/16) Definitely something to share with colleagues and grantees.
BUDGETS | Mayor Gray has released a (very) short survey asking for the public’s input about the D.C. FY2012 budget. Policy expert Susie Cambria says it’s a nice thought, but it would have been much more useful a few months ago. (Susie Cambria, 3/21)

ARTS | Curtains for the historic Takoma Theatre? (WaPo, 3/21) A “plot that pits development against preservation (subplot: art vs. commerce).”
