Fannie, Freddie Scale Back Gifts to Charity (WaPo, 5/18) – “reduced charitable giving by more than 40 percent from 2006 to 2008″ … “projected to drop slightly again this year”… longer-term future still unclear… Tamara Lucas Copeland: Fannie and Freddie are “significant supporters and investors in our region…What we see is a number of nonprofits that are struggling and trying to determine how they’re going to support the important work they’re doing.”

SPENDING OUT | “Giving While Living: The Beldon Fund Spend Out Story” – $100M in 10 years – “We had to learn quickly from our mistakes and make appropriate revisions” … “made us a little bolder in our policy-oriented grant making.”

COMPENSATION | MontCo withholds money to charity because of high executive pay (Examiner, 5/12) - Does Food & Friends raise substantially more money because of Mr. Shniderman? I don’t know. But, if so, maybe his salary is justified. Just throwing it out there.
